Engaging in meaningful and purposeful activities enhances resilience, fostering a robust defense against life's stressors. With a rooted sense of purpose, priorities become clearer, offering a lens of focus and perspective that transforms stress from an overwhelming force into manageable challenges. This alignment with purpose ensures that even amidst adversity, the essential aspects of life remain in sharp focus, grounding our responses and actions in what is truly significant.
Welcome to this Self-Reflective Questionnaire
Before you get started, you need to know that there are no right or wrong answers in this exercise. It's all about your personal reflection and understanding your core values.
Identifying your core values is akin to finding your compass in life, pointing you toward what truly matters to you. One effective way to unearth these values is by introspecting about your past experiences, feelings, and the choices you have made.
Reflecting on moments of pride, contentment, and genuine happiness can reveal patterns that indicate what drives you.
Here are some questions to guide you through this self-exploration.
Think about someone you deeply admire. What qualities do they have that you respect?
What topics make you feel passionate? Is there something that especially upsets you or that you feel compelled to speak passionately about?
Think about a moment in your life where you felt truly happy. What were you doing? Were you with other people? Who? What contributed to your happiness?
Think of a moment when you felt fulfilled/satisfied. What was the need/desire? How/why did the experience give your life meaning? What contributed to the feeling?
Think of a time when you were really proud of yourself. Why were you proud?
What do you disapprove of, or dislike, in the actions of others? How would you act differently, if you were in their shoes?
If you were to teach something to a younger version of yourself, what would it be?
Imagine your 80th birthday. Two or three people make speeches about what you stand for, what you mean to them, and the role you played in their lives. In the IDEAL world, where you have lived your life as the person you want to be, what would you hear them saying?
Identify Your Values
Reflect on your answers and consider what they might suggest about your core values. See if you can determine your top values based on your responses. Select three or four core values that you hold most important - if you have too many core values to focus on, then nothing is really a priority. Reflect and Reaffirm Reflect on your primary values, ensuring they align with your life and your envisioned path.
Do these values make you feel good about yourself?
Are you proud of your top three values?
Would you be comfortable and proud to tell your values to people you respect and admire?
Do these values represent things you would support, even if your choice isn't popular, and it puts you in the minority?
By anchoring decisions in your values, you maintain your integrity and ensure choices are made with clarity and conviction. You'll also know that what you're doing is best for your current and future happiness and satisfaction. Making value-based choices may not always be easy. However, making a choice that you know is right is a lot less difficult in the long run. Some common values:
